Every student is a good learner, taught the right way
Srinivas Polisetty, PhD, on what over a decade in the classroom has taught him about how students actually learn.
I am a professional math and physics tutor dedicated to empowering high and middle school students to achieve their goals and excel in math and physics. My primary objective is to help students achieve their best. Not every academic professional is naturally a great teacher and tutor. Nevertheless, with over a decade of experience teaching math and physics, a passion for helping students build their skills and confidence, and a joy in connecting with students, I am uniquely positioned to educate students of all ages and abilities.
Learning should be enjoyable. My teaching approaches and strategies are adapted to suit students' ages, abilities, goals, and interests. I employ a variety of resources and methods, including games, videos, exercises, flashcards, and conversation.
My teaching philosophy is shaped by a lifetime of experiences, including successes and failures as a teacher, and interactions with both excellent and not-so-excellent teachers and mentors throughout my career. I believe that teaching involves complex human interactions between the teacher and student, influenced by personalities, listening and communication skills, and learning abilities. My practical approach to teaching has evolved over the years and can be summarized in a few points.
In practice
- I always come well-prepared, setting a professional standard for my students.
- I approach teaching with enthusiasm and passion, fostering attentiveness and participation.
- I create a friendly environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, make comments, and test their knowledge without fear.
- I treat every student with equal respect and dignity, recognizing the importance of individuality.
- I show that I care for my students — they won't care about what I know until they know I care about them.
- I am flexible and prioritize feedback from my students in determining the pace of the course.
- I provide easy access to web-based materials to promote independent exploration and intellectual self-fulfillment.
